Who uses handkerchiefs nowadays? Count the tissues
While watching #SharkTank, a Shark quipped:
“Who even uses #handkerchiefs nowadays?”

It got me thinking, because today, #FacialTissues are everywhere, in bags, cars, washrooms, restaurants, desks!
We reach for one without thinking!
Some facts:
On average, one #eucalyptus #tree produces about 12,000 facial tissues (i.e., ~120 boxes of 100 tissues)
A single person using 3 tissues per day = 1,000+ tissues a year
That’s 1 tree for every 12 people, every year!
Most facial tissues are made from virgin wood pulp, not recycled paper, because softness sells.
Why this matters:
- Tissues are single-use
- Post-use, they are not #recyclable
- Often bleached for whiteness, adding to water #pollution
And what about the alternative, the good old handkerchief:
- Reusable, Easily Washable
- Made from cotton or fabric scraps
- Leaves a minimal ecological footprint
But, it’s not trendy, so we have stopped using it completely!
In the name of convenience and looking cool, we are contributing to #deforestation and daily waste.
A simple switch, even part-time, can help.
Would you consider going back to a handkerchief — even just at home or at work?
