₹27,335 crore paid in MF distributor commissions

₹27,335 crore. That's the amount paid as #MutualFund Distributor (MFD) commissions in FY25.

And here's the interesting part:
A large part of this cost could be avoided by investing in #DirectPlans.

But millions of investors continue with #RegularPlans.

Why?
Because we have somehow made investing in mutual funds sound complicated.
- How to Start?
- Which fund should I buy?
- Is this the right time?
- Should I switch?
- Which fund will outperform?

The irony?
We often assume that the person selling us a mutual fund is automatically helping us make better investment decisions.

That's not necessarily true.

A Regular Plan and Direct Plan invest in the same portfolio and are managed by the same fund manager. The key difference is that the Regular Plan includes distribution costs, resulting in a higher expense ratio.

Distributors are generally paid trail commissions on Regular Plan assets, meaning the incentive can continue as long as your money remains invested.

Here's a simple exercise:
Open your mutual fund statement today.
Find the word “Regular.”

Then ask yourself:
What am I getting in return for the additional cost?
If you find value, continue investing via MFD; if not, switch to Direct Plans.

The point is to know what you're paying for!
Understand the cost. Understand the value. Then decide.

Are you invested in Regular Plans? If yes, what value are you getting from the distributor?
