The old tax regime just got a reality check
#OldTaxRegime Just Got a Reality Check!
With the latest changes in the #ITR forms for FY25, the Old Tax Regime isn’t as “easy to manipulate” anymore, and that's by design.
The #IncomeTax Department is tightening the screws by using #AI, #data integrations, and PAN-Aadhaar linkages to cross-verify every claim you make. Think of it as a compliance web that’s smarter, faster, and harder to dodge.
What’s Changing?
To claim deductions under sections like 80C, 80D, or HRA, here’s what’s now expected:
- HRA:
Employer’s name, address
Rent amount + address of rented property
PAN of the landlord
"So no more 'Metro job, hometown rent to parents' loopholes!"
- Insurance Premiums:
Policy number, insurer name, premium paid, payment date
- Home & Education Loans:
Lender details, account number, sanction date, amount outstanding
- EV Loan Deduction (80EEB):
Vehicle registration number, loan details
#Fake claims and “creative accounting” just became high risk. With all systems talking to each other, from banks to the Vahan portal, expect more notices, rejections, and scrutiny.
The net effect?
Many will find the Old Regime too tedious or risky and shift to the #NewTaxRegime. The government, anyway, wants to kill the Old tax regime!
In a country where people still hire agents to file ITR-1, are we ready for this much detail? Maybe the job losses that might have occurred due to the introduction of the New Tax Regime, now would be saved!
What should you do?
- Maintain clean documentation and keep the records handy! Remember, the IT department can open up processed returns, even in the future!
- Avoid aggressive tax planning - Taxes and Death are certain!
- Yes, your “friendly neighborhood tax advisor” would still say, nothing happens, I will get you a hefty refund! Please block him/her!
So, have you shifted to the New Tax Regime or still filing taxes under the Old Tax Regime?
