Emergency funds, jobs & layoffs

Your EPF interest hasn't been credited. Should you worry?

"Bro, my colleague's #EPF interest got credited. Mine hasn't. Should I be worried?"
A friend called me in a panic.
I asked him to calm down and not to worry.

Here's what many #EPFO subscribers don't know.
The interest credited to your EPF account is only a book entry.
The interest is credited on 31st March, irrespective of whether the entry appears in April, July or later. If you don't believe me, check your last year's interest credit date!

So if your colleague sees the entry before you do, it doesn't mean he earned more interest than you.

Every year, this creates unnecessary anxiety.
In fact, a few years ago, EPF interest used to be credited around Diwali (Oct-Nov).
Last year, the process became much faster.
And according to the latest updates, interest credit for all eligible subscribers is expected to be completed by mid-July.

So if you don't see the entry today...
It doesn't automatically mean something is wrong.
Just give it a few more days.

Have you checked your EPF account yet? Has the interest been credited, or are you still waiting?
