Budget 2026: the old tax regime isn't gone yet
The #Government loves to confuse the #CommonMan!
Most people believed that with the majority of #taxpayers shifting to the #NewTaxRegime, #Budget2026 would quietly mark the end of the #OldTaxRegime.
But the new #IncomeTax rules 2026, have the potential to flip the narrative.
Instead of killing the Old Regime, they may have just revived it.
Here are some key changes proposed:
• 50% higher #HRA deduction category now includes cities like Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, apart from the 4 Metros
• #Mealvoucher limit increased from ₹50 to ₹200 per meal
• Tax-free gifts & festival vouchers increased from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000
• Children education allowance increased from ₹100 to ₹3,000 per child per month
• Hostel allowance increased from ₹300 to ₹9,000 per child per month
These revised limits finally acknowledge real-world inflation.
But here’s the twist 👇
By increasing exemption thresholds and allowances linked with the Old Regime, the government may have made it attractive again.
Many salaried taxpayers could now reconsider shifting back.
2026 might turn into the year of tax regime re-evaluation.
Would you switch back?
