Microsoft's buyout and retiring as a developer

In the #West, you could retire as a #Developer. In #India, you were expected to keep climbing the ladder.
That line may need an update, with the recent voluntary buyout announced by #Microsoft:
Eligibility = Age + years of service ≥ 70, and Applicable up to the Senior Director level
The criteria sends a subtle message: #Experience is valued… but only at the right level and cost!

There’s a large group of professionals who:
- Prefer staying hands-on
- Avoid the managerial grind
- Choose stability over aggressive growth
- Value work-life balance
- Have family responsibilities
For years, this path was viable, especially in the West.
But that equation is changing.

With rising costs, #AI investments, and efficiency focus, Companies are re-evaluating cost vs contribution.
And when a market leader moves…Others tend to follow!!!

What does this mean for us?
Career stability is no longer guaranteed; we need to plan for #Retirement funds as early as possible!
1. Strengthen retirement planning early - Don’t wait till you're 50s!
2. Reduce fixed obligations - Lower #EMIs = higher flexibility
3. Control lifestyle #inflation - High income doesn’t need to mean high expenses
4. Build a solid #EmergencyFund - At least 12 months of expenses is non-negotiable
5. Develop a #PlanB - Second income / alternate skills / passive income

The biggest #Risk today is not losing a #Job.
It’s not being prepared when it happens!!!
And if you need help in the preparation, feel free to reach out!
