Instant help services and the real price of convenience
Would you continue using #InstantHelp services… if companies started charging the Real #Price?
A young colleague recently shared her “hack” with me 😄
She has moved her regular maid out and completely shifted to Instant help services over the past couple of months.
How?
- Using different family members’ phone numbers
- First-time booking offers
- Referral bonuses
Result: Services at unbelievably low prices!

As per recent numbers published for #Urban Company’s #InstaHelp segment, the company is reportedly losing around ₹447 per order!
Meanwhile, many such services, including competitors like #Snabbit and #Pronto, are currently available for less than ₹200/hour!
Yes, some of these costs include customer acquisition costs, referral incentives, discounts, etc. But even after adjusting for that, the current economics don’t appear #sustainable!
And we have seen this movie before.
Remember the early cab aggregator days?
- AC Rides are cheaper than autos
- Drivers earning exceptionally high incentives
- Customers loving the convenience
Eventually, Prices went up, Incentives vanished, and Driver protests began!
Because #investor-funded #subsidies can only last for so long.
The same pattern may eventually emerge here, too.
At some stage, companies would likely need to:
- Increase prices
- Reduce incentives for service partners
- Push for profitability
And that is where the real market test begins.
Do customers still value the service when discounts disappear, prices double?
