The car EMI that makes ₹2 lakh a month feel small

One of the biggest reasons even a ₹2 lakh monthly income feels insufficient today is the #CarLoan #EMI.
Recently, someone reached out asking for advice on buying a car.
As expected, the discussion quickly moved to loan eligibility, EMI affordability, and financing options.

My first question was much simpler:
"How much of the car can you pay for today without taking a loan?"
Many people don't like this question.
They immediately open Excel sheets and show calculations proving why taking a loan is the "smart" choice.

But here's the reality.
A car is primarily meant to safely take your family from Point A to Point B.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, it also became a #StatusSymbol.
And #SocialMedia has only made things worse.
People are no longer buying the car they need.
They are buying the car they think matches their designation, social image, or peers!

Before upgrading the car, ask a simple question:
Am I upgrading my lifestyle or upgrading my stress?
A larger EMI doesn't just reduce your monthly cash flow.
It also reduces flexibility:
- ability to invest
- ability to take career risks
- ability to handle emergencies
- ability to sleep peacefully during uncertain times

My advice remains simple:
If possible, buy the car outright.
If that stretches the budget, consider a used car. There are many organized players like #Cars24, #Spinny, as well as OEMs offering certified second-hand cars.
And if a new car is non-negotiable, consider buying a slightly lower variant or a smaller model that fits your budget. Top Model syndrome works best for the manufacturer, not necessarily for the buyer!

Most families will hardly notice the difference after a few months.
But they will definitely notice the difference in their bank account.

My first car was an i10. I drove it happily for more than 12 years while many of my peers changed cars every 4-5 years.
The result?
More money invested, less money depreciated.

#FinancialFreedom is rarely achieved through big breakthroughs.
It is usually achieved through hundreds of small decisions where you choose long-term wealth over short-term social validation.
Because when financial stress arrives, neither social media likes nor impressed relatives will help pay the EMI.
