“The day I have ₹10 crore, I'll quit the rat race”
"The day I have 10 Cr, I will quit the #RatRace!"
A frustrated friend made this bold statement recently.
I asked him a simple question:
"How many years will it take you to reach 10 Cr?"
"About 5 years," he replied.
"Do you think 10 Cr five years from now will have the same purchasing power as 10 Cr today?"
Silence!
Even at modest 5% #inflation, 10 Cr today would be equivalent to roughly 12.7 Cr after 5 years.
Shocked, he said, "Then I will have to work even longer. And by then, the target will move again!"
This is where many people get trapped.
They keep chasing a #corpus number without realizing that the number itself keeps changing.
Most people spend years obsessing over investment returns while ignoring the two variables they control the most:
- increasing #income
- reducing unnecessary #expenses
So we sat down and looked at his numbers.
Within a few minutes, we identified expenses that added little value to his life. Suggested cutting them and adding them to his existing investments.
On the income side, we discussed promotions, skill upgrades, and potential job switches.
Suddenly, the problem looked much smaller.
Because the fastest path to financial freedom is often not finding the next multibagger. It is improving the cash flow equation.
A higher income helps.
Lower expenses help.
But the combination of both is where the magic happens.
The rat race doesn't end when you hit an arbitrary number.
It ends when your money starts working harder than you do.
