The harsh reality of invoice discounting
The Harsh Reality of #InvoiceDiscounting: A Lesson in #Risk vs. #Reward
Over the years, many have asked me about Alternative Investment options, and one of the most frequently mentioned is Invoice Discounting.
I first came across Invoice Discounting 20 years ago during my first job as a Sourcing Manager, where suppliers used it to manage their working capital, primarily through banks. Over time, with the rise of #fintech platforms, invoice discounting became accessible to retail investors, at times promising absurd returns (20%+).

Falcon Invoice Discounting collapse exposes the risks investors willingly ignored for those extra returns! And as expected, the impact has been devastating:
- A retired defense personnel invested ₹3.5 Cr of his retirement corpus—now left with ₹6 lakh in credit card debt. Yes, the platform even allowed investments via #creditcards! One more reason why the CC outstanding debt is continuously on the rise!
- A young professional invested two years' worth of savings because a relative vouched for the platform—now, neither the website nor the app works, and the relative is helpless too!
And these are just a few of the many heartbreaking stories, Police from multiple states have registered cases against the company!
Why Do People Fall for Such Schemes?
- #FOMO & #Greed – The dream of quick riches blinds people to risks.
- Ignoring Red Flags – 24% returns? If making money was this easy, why wouldn’t the company just take a cheap bank loan and become rich overnight?
- Trusting #SocialMedia – So-called #finfluencers and "finance gurus" selling ₹99 masterclasses or promising astronomical returns—they profit, you lose!
The golden rule of investing is simple: If the returns are too good to be true, it’s a scam, run away!
Yet, history repeats itself. Investors ignore risks in pursuit of flashy returns, only to regret it later.
