A new fundamental right: the footpath. Now find one
We have a new #FundamentalRight.
The right to walk on a #footpath!
The #SupremeCourt has recognised that pedestrians also have rights.
A great step.

Now comes the difficult part…Finding the footpath. 😄
Sharing a few pictures from the area where I live.
These are not from a construction site.
These are supposed to be pedestrian pathways.
They have remained like this for over a week now.
Yes, cleaning before monsoons is necessary.
But leaving the mud, waste, and debris on the road during monsoons feels like a unique government strategy:
"See, we have cleaned the drains, that's a different story, same dirt would go inside again. We will pass another tender to clean that with taxpayers' money!"
A usable footpath should not be a luxury.
It is basic city infrastructure.
But sometimes our priorities are interesting.
We discuss smart cities, big projects, and world-class infrastructure…
while many citizens are still negotiating with potholes, garbage, and blocked footpaths every single day.
And then there is the recent debate over restricting government subsidies to Karnataka voters only!
Maybe someday we will also have a similar rule:
"Footpaths are only for Karnataka voters. Others can continue their Olympic training of walking on roads." 😅
Jokes apart, cities are built for people.
Not just vehicles.
Not just announcements.
Not just policies on paper.
A right is meaningful only when people can actually experience it.
Will something ever change?
Sorry if you felt disgusted seeing these pics, this is the reality common citizens have to go through every day!
