A scheme that was too good to be true
Recently, a friend sought my advice on a new #investment scheme that promised sky-high returns. After hearing the details, the scheme seemed too good to be true, so I advised him against it. But, as is often the case, he was determined. Some of his friends had invested earlier and already “made a fortune”, fueling his confidence.
Here’s the thing: most #Ponzi schemes follow this exact pattern. Early investors reap impressive returns, attracting a wave of new customers eager to cash in. But when the scheme collapses, those who invested late find themselves with empty promises and lost savings. The sad part, the packaging changes, but the core remains the same, still, the allure of quick wealth draws people in again and again.
Golden Rule: If an investment sounds too good to be true, it most likely would go bust sooner rather than later!
And for my friend? He ended up investing anyway, the greed of quick money makes us blind! Now, he doesn’t come to me for financial advice—but I hope he doesn’t end up learning the hard way.
Have you or someone you know ever encountered (or fallen for) a Ponzi scheme? What were your biggest takeaways? Let’s spread some insights and keep each other financially savvy.
