It's Diwali, and EPF interest still hasn't arrived

It’s Diwali, and yet millions of EPFO subscribers are still Waiting for last year’s #EPF (Employees Provident Fund) interest credit! 🎆

Every year around this time, EPFO subscribers look forward to that credit entry—a small spark of financial cheer. This year, it is a Radio silence for many as they wait for that elusive entry!

While the delayed credit doesn’t technically impact future earnings (since interest is considered to be credited at the end of the last fiscal year), it certainly does impact our peace of mind.

In past years, the government has usually ensured crediting the interest by Diwali, but this time, the delay is testing subscribers’ patience. By the way, if you’re transferring or withdrawing your PF balance, your interest gets credited during the settlement (generally within 60 days). But for those who are falling into these buckets, there’s nothing to do but sit and wait.

Imagine if we, the common taxpayer, were allowed such leniency in filing IT returns! Anyway through TDS, the government has all the due money, why are they so bothered about the ITR! Any delay there costs us penalties and the process is so complicated, that many end up paying extra to file ITRs, I always wonder why!

Shouldn’t EPFO follow a similar yardstick? When delays are due to bureaucratic red tape, it seems only fair that subscribers are compensated. But here in India, babus and netas rarely face accountability. All compliance seems to fall on the common man.

What do you think? Till when EPFO subscribers should suffer due to this lethargic nature of the government!
