What I'd build for a fintech: expense management
A few years ago, during an interview with a prominent #fintech company, I was asked, "What would you improve in our app?" My answer was straightforward: "With the immense data you have, why not create a product around #ExpenseManagement?"

I elaborated: "Your app already processes #CreditCard statements. With that data, you can provide detailed insights into consumer spending patterns. Imagine a user being able to see exactly how much they spent on Swiggy, Amazon, or healthcare at the end of the year. This kind of granular analysis could empower users to make smarter financial decisions."
Unfortunately, the interviewer dismissed the idea, stating I didn’t understand the company’s core values!
Fast forward a few years, and I was pleasantly surprised (and slightly amused) to see the same company finally leveraging its data to create an expense insights feature. By integrating #AccountAggregator frameworks and their existing data pipelines, they’ve unlocked a valuable resource for their users—and a potential new revenue stream.
It’s great to see the fintech space evolving to empower users with tools that help them manage their money better. Expense management isn’t just a feature—it’s a necessity in today’s data-driven financial landscape.
But it did make me wonder:
How often do companies overlook ideas because they don’t align with their immediate goals? How many ideas remain shelved until someone revisits them with fresh perspective or data?
Have you ever pitched an idea during an interview that was later implemented by the company? How did it feel?
